Raffles Hotel *****

Raffles Hotel

A drink at the Raffles Hotel

Raffles Hotel, established in 1887, was designated a National Monument in 1987. It has been restored to its original splendour, and consists of 104 suites, each tastefully appointed with period fur-nishings and amenities to cater for the discerning traveller. The many gardens and courtyards complement the elegant architecture.

Each Suite has its own spacious parlour, bedroom, dressing area and bath. The 14 ft molded ceilings, overhead fans, timber floors, oriental carpets and period-style furnishings are skillfully combined with all the amenities of a grand hotel, exuding the warmth and ele-gance of the 1920's. An integral part of Raffles Hotel, the Arcade provides a range of facilities for visitors to enjoy: Jubilee Hall theatre playhouse; a venue for the arts, seven food and beverage outlets, Raffles Hotel Museum and many other shops. Other facilities include a 24-hour health club and swimming pool, Raffles Culinary Academy and other food and beverage outlets, and indoor and outdoor function areas.

Royal Peacock Hotel ***½

The Royal Peacock occupies a row of 10 beautifully restored shop-houses. To preserve its authentic ambiance each shop-house has been artistically restored to its original condition. The Royal Peacock aims to lavish each and every guest with per-sonalised and efficient service. In addition to in-room amenities, the hotel also provides an intimate International restaurant and bar, sec-retarial and laundry services. Located in the heart of Chinatown, close to hawkers stalls, cosy eateries and Outram MRT Station, the Royal Peacock exudes charm, elegance and character. Dating back to 1813, this converted shop-house offers extremely cosy accommodation with a distinctly European feel. Standard rooms do not have windows, but other cat-egories offer views of colourful Keong Saik Road or the leafy street at the back. In keeping with the cosy ambience, facilities are restrict-ed to an intimate coffee shop and a bar. Overall great value and an alternative to the usual city hotel. A room at the Royal Peacock
