Royal Burma Cruise
A four
night cruise exploring the five old royal capitals of Burma
The history
of Burma is the history of the river. As with ancient Egypt, all
Burma's ancient capitals and lost cities are along the banks of
the great Irrawaddy River. As with the Nile, the best way to explore
these ancient sites is by a luxury river cruise. On our original
colonial river steamer, Pandaw I, we take you in a circular cruise
from the bustling port of central Mandalay, the last royal capital
of Burma, north, to the remote pot making village at Kyauk-myoung.
We then return downstream, via the vast Mingun pagoda complex, to
explore the enchanting former capitals of Ava, Amarapura and Sagaing.
We continue downstream stopping at the charming river village of
Yandabo, known for its smaller hand made pots, to the first great
imperial capital of Burma, Pagan, with its 3,000 listed monuments.
This short cruise offers a penetrating insight into the history
and culture of this river land whilst offering a glimpse of the
river people's timeless way of life.
Whilst a Pandaw cruise experience is intended as a stimulating experience,
it is also a tranquil and highly relaxing way to travel with a high
level of comfort, cuisine and care.
Day One embark Mandalay (Gawein Jetty) at 12:00 for luncheon,
steam upstream and moor overnight at a jungle village north of Mandalay
Day Two upstream to a pot-making village near Kyauk-myaung;
return downstream to visit Mingun to view the pagoda and largest
working bell in the world
Day Three visit ancient cities of Ava and Amarapura by coach,
sampan and horsecart; after dinner ballet performance on deck
Day Four morning walk in the Sagaing Hills visiting Buddhist
hermitages and stunning view points
afternoon exploration of Yandabo village to see potteries and rural
life; after dinner puppet show on deck
Day Five arrive Pagan by 11:00
