CHINDWIN RIVER CRUISE
In 1998 we ran
our first Chindwin Reconnaissance. Despite the hazards of navigating
so untamed a river it proved a resounding success and we reached
the remote colonial outpost of Mawlaik. This unforgettable experience
has since been repeated annually. The Chindwin is the most scenic
of Burma's rivers with richly forested hills tumbling into the fast
muddy waters. We pass through gorges and defiles and even witness
whirlpools. Being a forgotten corner of Burma, we found the towns
and villages rich in historical vestiges with lavishly appointed
monasteries and temples.
