6 day Northern Trails.

This six day tour visits the famous battlefield of Dien Bien Phu and the mountainous region around Sapa which is renowned for its colourful hilltribe minorities.

Day 1: Hanoi - Hoa Binh - Mai Chau - Son La. Drive to Mai Chau via Hoa Binh town through picturesque scenery with stunning views of the mountains on the way. Visit Thai ethnic minority village. Continue driving to Son La.
Day 2: Son La - Dien Bien Phu. Drive from Son La to Dien Bien Phu. Explore the site of the famous Vietnamese victory over the French in 1954.
Day 3: Dien Binh Phu - Lai Chau - Phong Tho. Visit Museum, notorious hill A-l battlefield, former French command post and a old tank. Drive to Lai Chau, then to Phong Tho. Opportunities for hiking with Hmong and Dzao hill tribes in the area.
Day 4: Phong Tho - Binh Lu - Sapa. Drive to Sapa through terraced rice paddies ringed by mountains.
Day 5: Sapa - Ta Van - Cat Cat - Sapa. Short walk takes you to ethnic Ta Van and Cat Cat villages. Afternoon free to explore Sapa.
Day 6: Sapa - Lao Cai - Hanoi. Drive to Lao Cai to board atmospheric local train to Hanoi.
