Renovated
Please note that a temporary welcome area has been set up at the
Siem Reap airport, due to the ongoing renovations. All guides are
now required to wait for incoming visitors at this welcome area,
which is located approximately 50m from the main arrival terminal.
Please look for this welcome area, as guides are no longer permitted
to wait at the terminal itself.

'Mekong
Express' Boat Service
A new express boat service from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap and back
called the 'Mekong Express' will start service on 20 June 2002.
This express boat has a capacity of 140 seats (including 20 seats
on the top), and is equipped with modern furniture, air-conditioning
and safety systems. It also features meals and beverages on board.
The boat departs from Phnom Penh at 8.30am and arrives in Siem Reap
at 12.00am. From Siem Reap, it departs at 2.30pm and reaches Phnom
Penh at 6.00pm.

Bagan
As this spectacular balloon trip over the ancient temples of Bagan
is becoming more and more popular, Balloons over Bagan has added
one more balloon to their fleet. Starting from October 5, 2002 Balloons
over Bagan will increase their total capacity to 20 passengers per

Laos
Trekking in
Laos
The Nam Ha Eco-Tourism project has introduced trekking tours in
the Luang Namtha area. The treks offer a unique opportunity to discover
the impressive nature of northern Laos and authentic experience
of traditional village life among the ethnic minorities. Accommodation
and meals will be included for the overnight treks. In addition,
all treks are led by well-trained, authorized local guides (English
speaking).
During the months
of June - February, it is possible to combine a trekking tour with
rafting on the Nam Ha, the river inside the National Park. For further

The Mekong Club
is an informal, non-political, non-commercial association, primarily
concerned with promotion of the cultures of the "Mekong Region"
(i.e. Viet Nam, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and adjacent regions) in
the UK. The Club will act as a forum for exchange of information
and experience by:
- The promotion
of social and cultural events, tutorial groups and other meetings
- Maintenance
of a world wide web page and an address list for circulars on
'events and ideas'.
Membership is
open to all, but it is envisaged that the club will be of particular
interest to:
- Expatriates
from the Mekong Region living in the UK, with particular encouragement
given to 2nd and 3rd generation family members.
- British (and
other European) citizens wishing to maintain in contact with people
and issues in the Mekong Region.
- Visitors
from the Region needing temporary support whilst in the UK.
- Citizens
in the Mekong Region, wishing to develop contacts in the UK.
The Club will
be organised by a chairperson, secretariat and webmaster, with a
single, annual business meeting combined with a social event. The
secretariat will be responsible for financial stewardship, with
a "minimal" fund consisting of contributions for individual events
and newsletters. An annual membership fee of £5 is envisaged per
