'Golden Rock'

Located Southeast of Rangoon, Kyaiktiyo, or 'Golden Rock' Pagoda is a huge gold-plated boulder poised on the edge of a steep cliff. On top of the rock is a delicate pagoda. It is approached by either hiking uphill 10km or by steep roads (passengers sitting in the loading area of open minitrucks) the final stage (45-60 minutes 500m difference in altitude) being on foot. Sedan chairs are for rent for these last 4 km.
