14 Day Laos Adventurer
Southern
Laos has a completely different character from the North and
this suggested itinerary includes one of the main highlights
of the region - the Khmer temple of Wat Phou at Champassak.
Our 14 day Adventurer starts in Northern Thailand and visits
the UNESCO World Heritage town of Luang Prabang in the North
before drifting down to Don Khong right on the Cambodian border.

Day 1:
Bangkok - Chiang Rai - Chiang Saen
Fly to Chiang Rai then to Chiang Saen by road and longtail boat.
Day 2: Chiang Saen - Huay Xai Transfer to border and cross the
Mekong river by ferry to Ban Huay Xai in Laos. Walking tour then
excursion to minority villages.
Day 3: Huay Xai - Xiengkok - Muang Sing
Speed boat on Mekong river upstream to Xiengkok, then drive to Muang
Sing, visiting Lu and Akha minority villages.
Day 4: Muang Sing - Oudoinxay
Visit hilltribe morning market, then to Oudomxay, visiting Chiang
Tung Stupa and Akha, Lao Houei and Iko villages en route.
Day 5: Oudomxay - Phongsaly
Drive to Phongsaly through beautiful mountainous landscape, sight-seeing
and visiting villages en route.
Day 6: Phongsaly - Hatsa - Muang Ngoy
Transfer to Ban Hatsa, then 6 hour boat trip on Nam Ou river to
Nongkhio, through exceptional primary forest. Day 7: Muang
Ngoy - Luang Prabang
Boat on Nam Ou river to Luang Prabang for 4 hrs, stopping at Buddha
caves of Pak Ou and rice wine village. Arrive late afternoon.
Day 8: Luang Prabang
In the morning walking city tour visiting many Wats, and afternoon
visit to Ban Phanom weaving village.
Day 9: Luang Prabang - Vang Vieng
Drive to Vang Vieng through mountains, visiting minority villages,
and arriving for sunset over spectacular limestone cliffs.
Day 10: Vang Vieng - Vientiane
Visit local market in Vang Vieng, then scenic drive to Vientiane.
Afternoon sightseeing tour of city.
Day 11: Vientiane - Pakse - Tatio
Fly to Pakse, then excursion to Tatio to visit ethnic villages.
Day 12: Tatio - Pakse - Wat Phou - Don Khong
Drive to Pakse, then boat to Champassak for Wat Phou temple. After
lunch drive to Don Khong island.
Day 13: Khong - Phou Asa - Oup Moung - Pakse
By boat to Khone Phapheng water falls then by car to Pakse, visiting
Phou Asa and Oup Moung pre-Angkorian ruins.
Day 14: Pakse - Chong Mek - Ubon Ratchathani
After visit to morning market, transfer to Chong Mek (Thai-Laos
bor-der) for departure to Ubon Ratchathani. Evening flight to Bangkok.
