Hilltribe Trek
Enjoy trekking
through natural forest and visit ethnic hilltribes whose lives have
changed little over the centuries.
Our hilltribe treks in northern Thailand have been designed to show
you the rich culture of the numerous tribes that live in the mountain
regions of the country. These tribes live off the land cultivating
crops, hunting and collecting produce from the forest. They have
strong traditions and religious beliefs and the women still
dress in colourful head-dress and clothes made and elaborately embroidered
themselves.
|
Their
lives are very different from the ones we have in the west
where we have become so reliant on the combustion engine,
telecommunications and electronics, whereas they are more
in tune with the environment and its surroundings. Unfortunately
this fragile existence is easily damaged and over the past
couple of decades the increase in tourism has resulted in
the commercial exploitation of many of these tribes.
It is
therefore important that the way of life of these mountain
peoples is protected and the benefit of any tourism is shared
with those involved. We have put together these tours with
our partners in Thailand who have developed an award winning
product working with the tribes involved by contributing directly
to village life.
