GOLF IN THAILAND
Playing golf
in Thailand is truly an amazing experience. Wherever you are in
the Kingdom, a golf course is somewhere near to you. In the 1920's
Thailand opened its first golf course "Royal Hua Hin",
and the number of courses has grown significantly since then.
Today there
are now some 200 courses, though the majority is clustered around
popular tourist destinations such as Chiang Mai, Phuket, Bangkok,
Hua Hin, Kanchanaburi and Pattaya. Thailand is certainly a golf
paradise with famous designers like Robert Trent Jones Jr, Nick
Faldo, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Peter Thomson, Peter Dye, Greg
Norman adding their distinctive touches to the nation's courses.
Though Thailand's
courses are world class, green fees are surprisingly modest compared
with other countries. During weekdays you might have the whole golf
course to yourself as Thailand's golf courses are largely under
- utilized. Everywhere you play you will find superbly manicured
courses with impressive clubhouses offering excellent facilities.
On the golf courses you will find a kiosk every three or four holes
offering you cool drinks and small snacks if you need to fuel up.
It gets hot out there so don't forget to drink plenty of water and
to have a cap and sunscreen on you.
Thailand's
caddies make your every round of golf an easy one. They will carry
your bag around the course with a smile on her face, repair your
divots, rake the sand, clean the clubs, find the ball in the bush,
mark your ball on the green, and shield you from the hot sun.
Golf tours
groups can be as small or large, as you require. We are able to
take care of the accommodation, transportation, tee-off reservation,
green fees, and caddy fees for you. You only need to contact us
for your requirement and everything will be done.
"If golf is your passion, Thailand will be your paradise."

Resorts and Hotels
Bangkok
and around golf course
PINEHURST
GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB
A 45-minute drive from downtown Bangkok and 15 minutes past
Don Muang lies one of the most famous courses in Thailand.
The 27 hole - South (the Meadow), North (the Lake) and West
(Forest) - Yoshihira Aihara designed course was host to the
1994 Thailand Open and the 1992 Johnnie Walker Classic International
Tournaments. The layout is very similar to those in the US,
with water hazards and mounds providing most of the challenge.
As Pinehurst is a members-only club with a large Japanese
contingent, maintenance is usually consistent.
GREEN
VALLEY COUNTRY CLUB
Friends of the forests will love this one. One of the Green
Valley Group of courses, it is also one of Thailand's most
beautiful courses. Located about 1 hour south of Bangkok on
the Bang-Na Trad Highway it is situated in a beautiful countryside
setting, offering a clever alignment of fairways, greens and
holes in lush surroundings. Shot selection is a challenge
as many fairways are sloped and mounds obscure some of the
greens. Clever placement of bunkers and undulating greens
adds to the difficulties of this very exacting course, made
that much more challenging on the four par-fives which feature
water hazards down both sides of the fairway. The clubhouse
is opulent and dining is very expensive.
LAM
LUKKA COUNTRY CLUB
Located 27 km east of Don Muang International Airport, this
popular 36-hole course used Bangkok's early paddy-field courses
as its role model. It contains many wide fairways and large
greens and a lot of effort went into creating a pleasantly
shaded atmosphere with plenty of trees and shrubs. Accuracy
- not power - is the key to this course, as water lines both
sides of the fairway on a number of holes.
KIARTI
THANEE COUNTRY CLUB
Another favorite among local residents and tourists alike,
the course is conveniently located about 45 minutes south
of Bangkok at Km 29 on the Bangna Trad highway. Although this
18-hole course is fairly flat, its extensive use of bunkering
and water hazards more than compensate to provide a challenge
to golfers at all levels. Kiarti Thani's long par fives is
some of the most difficult in the region and most greens are
particularly well guarded.
NATURAL
PARK RAMINDRA GOLF CLUB
A very popular course located within 30 minutes of Bangkok's
downtown core on the newly-opened Ramintra expressway, this
Jack Nicklaus designed 18 hole course offers a tough test
for all levels of player. Huge lakes come into play on almost
half the holes and at the 16th players have to hit their approach
to an island green. Putting surfaces are good, but most of
the greens are well guarded by deep bunkers. The palatial
clubhouse has several restaurants and function rooms and has
hosted many local tournaments.
KHAO
YAI GOLF COURSE
MISSION
HILLS GOLF CLUB AND RESORT
Khao Yai's mysterious and haunting mountains provide a perfect
backdrop for this Jack Nicklaus designed course. You will
find it hard to believe you are on the same continent, let
alone only two hours drive from Bangkok, as you take to the
beautifully maintained first tee. What lies before you is
a splendid array of tough holes - in particular par-five holes
2 ands 12 - and a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.
ROYAL
HILLS GOLF COURSE
The course is set at the base of a mountain range on the fringes
of Khao Yai National Park. This is undoubtedly one of the
prettiest golf courses in Thailand. The fairways are lush
on account of the stream flowing through the layout. Positional
play therefore plays a big part at many holes, so accuracy
brings its own reward. Fairways and greens are in immaculate
condition, as are the tees. The clubhouse is a very attractive
building overlooking the verdant fairways. Hotel accommodations
are available, plus a sports complex and swimming pool.
PATTAYA
GOLF COURSE
NATURAL
PARK RESORT GOLF CLUB
A 27-hole park and course comprising three nines, the layout
is somewhat uninteresting, but has been improved with the
extensive use of palm trees lining the fairways. There are
some good dogleg holes, particularly the third on the "In"
course. At this hole it is important to "place"
the tee shot to avoid the huge expanse of water on the left
and well-placed traps on the right; the second shot has to
be hit over water and the shot to the green is guarded by
bunkers. The short eighth on the "out" is an exciting
hole, as the tee shot has to be played to an island green.
Clubhouse facilities are of a very high standard.
LAEM
CHABANG INTERNATIONAL COUNTRY CLUB
This championship course designed by Jack Nicklaus is undoubtedly
one of the finest golf courses in Thailand. The three nines
comprising the 27-hole layout-'Mountain', 'Lake' and 'Creek'
offer interesting variations in terrain. The rolling hills
of the surrounding countryside have been used to effect, and
the exposed rock formations add to the beauty of the fairways.
Lakes, ponds and creeks pose a major threat to stray shots
and some of the water carries are very challenging. The large,
undulating greens are mostly elevated and protected by wide
bunkers. Excellent clubhouse facilities and accommodations
on-site complement the outstanding golf course.
CHA-AM
& HUA-HIN GOLF COURSE
SPRINGFIELD
ROYAL COUNTRY CLUB
This Jack Nicklaus layout will provide a challenge to golfers
of all standards as they thread their way through well-placed
hazards to greens of the highest standard. Accuracy is required
at all times as the fairways are flanked by a series of hillocks
and covered by a forest of young trees.
THE IMPERIAL
LAKE VIEW HOTEL AND GOLF CLUB
This
Roger Packard designed course opened in 1993, and is truly absorbing.
Adventure is the style here, as rolling fairways and spectacular
mounding make some shots rather tricky. Located in among the
hills, the course offers spectacular scenery, well-defined fairways
and well-maintained, true-rolling greens. The par-three fourteenth
is one of the outstanding holes on the course in that both tees
and green is islands within a large lake, only accessible by
footbridges from the mainland. The facilities are excellent,
including a well-stocked pro shop, a great locker room, and
excellent practice facilities, including a grass driving range.
A 75-room Imperial Group hotel adjoining the clubhouse commands
fine views over the golf course and mountains beyond. Located
on the way to Pranburi, via Route 4 from Cha-Am.
PALM
HILLS RESORT & COUNTRY CLUB
Set
against a beautiful backdrop of Petchaburi's mountain range
and some amazing views of the Gulf of Thailand, approximately
two and a half hours from Bangkok by car on the way to Hua
Hin via route 4 from Cha-Am, lies the Palm Hills Golf Resort
and Country Club Golf Course. Separated by a rocky outcrop
that extends from the mountain range, the course runs from
east to west with lakes at each end and incorporates fast
greens with some very tricky burrows.
CHIANG
MAI GOLF COURSES
ROYAL
CHIANG MAI GOLF RESORT
Designed
by five-time British Open champion, Peter Thomson, the course
is set in a beautiful valley and the scenery is magnificent.
Mountains surround waterfalls, trail, streams and all kinds
of trees. Strategic positioning of fairway and greenside bunkers
calls for accurate play, rather than long hitting. However,
on some holes distances to the greens are deceptive and there
is a tendency to under club. There is not a poor hole on the
course. At the finish of the round there is a beautiful view
towards the clubhouse. The course also has a 60-room hotel.
CHIANGMAI
GREEN VALLEY COUNTRY CLUB
The
northern Thailand property owned by the Green Valley Group
is located 30 minutes from Chiang Mai towards the Ping River,
and offers the same high standards in course layout, maintenance
and management as their other properties. There is a lot of
water on and around this course, and most holes are heavily
bunkered as well. Make sure to drink lots of water on the
way round, as this course is one of the longest in the region,
and wide fairways mean that despite the number of trees, there
is not a lot of shade.
PHUKET
GOLF COURSES
Loch
Palm Golf Club
Loch
Palm is certainly the golf course for you. Spread over the
lush, rolling 400 rai (160 acres) hilly plateau, this 18-hole,
par 72 course has been masterfully designed to blend beautifully
with the natural terrain. Nestled below a panoramic range
of peaks, the layout surrounds the largest lake of any golf
course in Phuket, Crystal Lake. With more than 1,400 towering
palms lining the fairways, you're treated to the most serene
atmosphere along with many challenging hazards and greens.

Blue
Canyon, Phuket
One
of the most prestigious courses in Asia, the 18 hole
Blue Canyon country Club was developed in 1991 to a
design by Yoshikazo Kato. This beautiful course hosted
Thailand's leading golf tournament. The Johnnie Walker
classic, in 1994 and 1998 and relies on well guarded
greens, narrow landing areas, island greens and rolling
fairways for its hazards. Most famous of the course's
holes are the par three 14th (island) hole, where players
have to hit a perfect tee shot onto an island, and the
par four 14th (The Canyon) where players have to use
a hard drive to clear the obstacle. A course of such
splendid stature is, of course, accompanied by a large
and opulent clubhouse offering splendid views.

Banyan
Tree, Phuket
A
championship 18-hole golf course located within the
Laguna Development, these par 71 layouts offers sweeping
views of the Andaman Sea and is cradled within a surrounding
mountain range. Carved out of the existing sand hills,
the par 36 front nine meanders through a once flourishing
plantation. Players must be exact on their tee shots
as water comes into play on five holes. The back nine
features water on eight holes. Of the three par-threes,
the 11th hole. Though only 137 yards from the men's
tee will leave a lasting impression. The back-to-back
par-fives at the 17th and 18th create an unusual finish.
The clubhouse and hotel facilities are of the highest
standard.

Phuket
Country Club
Set
on undulating terrain, created from a former tin mine,
every hole of the first 18-hole layout provides a different
playing experience. The 557-yard, par-5, 10th hole on
the Old Course is one of the most unusual holes. A dogleg
right that snakes around an enormous lake, the pin is
reachable in one! To achieve it, one must aim 90 degrees
right of the fairway and be able to carry the shot 240
yards over water. The Country Club Course is a nine-hole
layout for low-handicap golfers. This course is not
easy as wayward shots are penalized either by water
hazards or OBs.
