TRIP PROFILE.
Our trip
takes us from Bombay, south by train to Goa . Then we will
drive into the hills to our first camp at Dandeli. Here we
fish the river Kali. An excellent fishing spot on the edge
of the Dandeli National Park.
|
Kali
Wilderness Camp offers not only great fishing but also
good opportunities to see a variety of wildlife. There
are some deep pools, runs as well as rapids, providing
great water for the Mahseer to feed in.
After
a couple of days fishing we will continue to Bangalore
and drive down to Cauvery fishing camp at Bheemeshwari.
This camp is located amidst the forest of Karnataka
and offers some of the best opportunities to catch a
large Masheer. We spend five days fishing this area
where you can also explore the forest for a chance to
see some of its wildlife. We then drive to Bangalore
where the tour ends with a farewell dinner at a local
restaurant.

ACCOMMODATION:
The
accommodation on this trip is a mixture of good quality private
hotels (3- star) in Bombay and Bangalore. We also spend two
nights on the sleeper train, which is quite comfortable, though
despite being first class is still rather basic. We will then
stay at two locations the first at Kali Wilderness Camp, which
is a comfortable permanent camp offering twin bedded lodges
and well furnished tended cottages. Bathroom facilities are
basic and meals are prepared and eaten on site. The camp at
Cauvery fishing Camp is the same as above.
WEATHER:
During
the time of the tour the weather in March is usually very
pleasant with clear and dry conditions. The daytime temperature
at the fishing camps will be in the 20's but the evenings
and early mornings will be cooler. It is typically tropical
with fairly high humidity but not too uncomfortable. You will
experience similar weather conditions in November when the
monsoons have ended and the river level has fallen. Then the
river is clearing after the rains and the fish start to migrate
down stream after laying their eggs.
