MERGUI ARCHIPELAGO,
SEA KAYAK AND ADVENTURE CRUISES
Comprising
over eight hundred islands and covering an area of ten thousand
square miles, these pristine islands had until January 1997, been
closed to all foreigners for well over 50 years. This area is totally
untouched by modern development, with a rich history of maritime
trade, mysticism and piracy.
The modern-day Mergui Archipelago is in virtual isolation, the islands
and surrounding seas are alive with an amazing diversity of wildlife,
flora and fauna. Parrots, hornbills, sea eagles, Brahminy kites
and herons fill the skies, whilst on land the animal population
includes wild cattle, elephants, monkeys, deer and wild pigs. The
only human inhabitants in the area are the sea gypsies, a nomadic
sea-faring race whose lifestyle has changed very little over the
years, they have been the sole inhabitants of the Mergui Archipelago
over the years and still practice the same fishing and boat building
techniques used for generations. This magnificent wilderness is
one of the world's natural treasures.

Cancellation
Clause: If circumstances should arise such as political unrest,
fighting on the Thai/Myanmar border, or any risk to customers or
vessels, we reserve the right to cancel the trip. If this should
be the case, we would reroute the trip to a destination in Thailand
at no extra cost to customers. We also reserve the right to change
the itineraries shown above to take into account flights, weather,
water clarity and pelagic action at time of the trip.
Force
Majeure: If, before the start of the cruise, Acts of God,
political incident, perils of sea, force majeure or heavy weather
covering the cruise route or ports of call should render sailing
inadvisable or dangerous to the life or health of the passengers
or to the vessel, the vessel captain, with or without consultation,
shall have the right to delay the cruise. Likewise, in the course
of the execution of the cruise, should heavy weather or force majeure
events occur to make it inadvisable for passengers to land, or for
the vessel to enter a port, the vessel captain shall have the right
to delay or postpone sailing until conditions permit the parties
to make adjustments to the itinerary including cancellation of certain
landfalls or the re-sequencing of island visits.
Access by air
to Kawthaung is rather difficult. Yangon Airways operates three
flights a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday (subject to change
without prior notice) and Air Mandalay operates two flights a week
on Monday and Thursday (subject to change without prior notice)
between Yangon and Kawthaung. These flights are, however, often
canceled at short notice. We recommend that you book your guests
on flights originating in Bangkok, either to Ranong or Phuket (daily
services by Bangkok Airways or Thai Airways International).
Guests joining
in Phuket or Ranong do not need to apply for Myanmar visas at Myanmar
Embassies. They will be issued with Myanmar Entry Permits in Kawthaung
which are valid for the duration of their selected program (no prior
arrangements are necessary). Guests must enter and exit at Kawthaung.
and cannot extend their stay in Myanmar. Guests who in addition
wish to travel to other areas in Myanmar need to apply for a Myanmar
Visa at a Myanmar Embassy and must obtain a special permit which
will be arranged by Mekong Travel Ltd. In order to obtain such permit
we need your guests passport details, nationality and occupation
latest 1 month prior to departure.
